Our District
Virginia’s 78th District encompasses a major portion of the City of Richmond. North of the James River, it spans from the Capitol in the east to the University of Richmond in the west, and includes Northside communities west of Chamberlayne Avenue. South of the James River, the District spans from Powhite Parkway in the east and Stony Point in the west.
Communities included are Bellevue, Byrd Park, Carillon, Carytown, City Stadium, The Diamond, Fan District, Kanawha Trace, Laburnum Park, Lock Green, Maymont, Monument Avenue, Monroe Ward, Museum District, Oregon Hill, Oxford, Randolph, Rosedale, Sauer’s Garden, Scotts Addition, Sherwood Park, Shockoe Slip, Southampton, Stony Point, Stratford Hills, Three Chopt, Uptown, West Avenue, West Grace Street, Westhampton, and Windsor Farms.
Our district consists of many notable places and attractions including Hollywood Cemetery, the James River Park System, Maymont Park, Brown’s Island, the Carillon and Virginia’s War Memorial, Byrd Park, and Bryan Park.
Museums and cultural institutions in the District include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, the Science Museum, the Children’s Museum, the American Civil War Museum, the Branch Museum of Architecture, the Valentine Museum, the State Capitol, the Institute for Contemporary Art, and the Modlin Center for the Arts.
Institutions of higher education in the District are Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond.
Richmond Public Schools serve students in the District at Albert Hill Middle, Binford Middle, Carver Elementary, Fisher Elementary, Fox Elementary, Henderson Middle, Holton Elementary, Huguenot High, John B. Cary Elementary, John Marshall High, Lucille Brown Middle, Maggie Walker Governor’s School, Mary Munford Elementary, Open High, Richmond Community High, Southampton Elementary, and Thomas Jefferson High.
